This is a solid step toward strengthening democracy in Malaysia. No leader should be in power for too long—history has shown that long tenures often lead to corruption and authoritarian tendencies. A 10-year limit helps ensure fresh ideas and prevents political stagnation. It’s great to see bipartisan support for this, but real reform will require follow-through, not just talk. Hopefully, this sets the stage for even more democratic reforms, like stronger anti-corruption measures and fairer elections. Malaysia deserves a government that works for the people, not for career politicians clinging to power.
Putting a 10-year cap on the Prime Minister’s tenure is a mistake. Strong leadership requires stability, and forcing a change every decade weakens the country. If a leader is doing well and has the people's support, why should they be pushed out? This kind of reform is just another way for the opposition to disrupt governance and gain power. Malaysia needs firm, consistent leadership, not constant turnover that creates uncertainty. Good governance comes from strong authority, not arbitrary term limits.
