The Malaysian United Indigenous Party, known by its Malay acronym BERSATU, is a political party in Malaysia that was established on September 8, 2016. It was founded by former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and several other politicians who left the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) due to disagreements with the party's leadership, particularly over the handling of the 1MDB scandal. BERSATU positions itself as a centrist and nationalist party, aiming to promote the interests and welfare of the indigenous Malay population, which it considers the core of the Malaysian…   nation, alongside the interests of other ethnic groups within the country.
