It depends on the crime rate that occurs in the country, for instances, in the States, crime rates are ambiguously very high compared to Canada. Plus, we've seen recently how people in USA react to political issues. In that case, then no, funding for local police department is indeed essential. On the other hand, if crime rate and risk is low, then it would be better to redirect the funding to social and community based programs.
